Matt Shupe's Dedicated Follower is part one of the STD Kinks Kover Project. The Kinks Kover Project is our attempt to get as many friends as possible to record Kinks songs.

Matt was the first musician to answer the call. And answer he did. I requested that he come in with one or two songs. He showed up six, all arranged and ready to go. Over the course of ten hours, Matt, knocked out all six songs along with Maureen on drums and me, Greg, on bass.

Maximum of two takes per song, with us all in one room, Matt on a chair facing the kick drum strumming guitar and singing. The sessions were fantastic, thanks to a combination of Matt's great talent and the fact that we were recording on tape*, a medium that demands a fully human performance.

After Matt headed back to Loveland, I overdubbed a few parts and the record was finished.

*In 2020, a sixteen-track reel-to-reel tape recorder appeared in Sparky the Dog Studios.

For the duration of 2021, we restored the machine.

In 2022, we started the Kinks Kover Project because:

1) We love the Kinks.
2) We needed to learn how to use the tape machine.
3) It's a great way to get friends out to the farm.
